NEW DELHI: Amid Congresss allegations of dilution of the Gandhis security cover, a group of seven persons allegedly drove into the Lutyens Delhi home of Congress general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra and approached her for selfies on November 26.
Priyankas office made an official complaint to the CRPF which is learnt to be investigating the security breach, sources said on Monday. The CRPF did not answer repeated calls and messages from TOI.
Security personnel on duty on the day of the breach have been asked to file a report and the sequence of events is being established, sources said, adding that the CRPF is likely to clarify the matter on Tuesday.
The alleged incident took place on November 26, barely a month after Priyankas SPG protection was withdrawn.
The group comprised three men, three women and a teenaged girl who arrived in a sedan and managed to drive up to the porch of Priyankas home in Lodhi Estate. They got out of the car, walked up to her and asked her to allow photographs with her. They claimed they had driven all the way from UP for a selfie. Though shocked at how they had managed to enter the premises, usually guarded like a fortress, Priyanka is learnt to have spoken nicely to them. They took pictures with her and left, sources said.
Commenting on the incident, a senior Delhi Police officer said it was because of a “communication gap”. “As per the new arrangement, CRPF and Delhi Police are looking after security at 35, Lodhi Estate. Some communication gap seems to have occurred on the day of the incident. Necessary corrective measures have been initiated,” the officer said.
