She became the voice of a generation on female friendship, dating and 20-something break-ups when she penned Girls.
But Lena Dunham just shared how shes dealing with her own third wheel drama, revealing that she hasnt spoken to former BFF Lorde about embarrassing claims the popstar dated Jack Antonoff.
In fact, the 32-year-old hasnt said a word to the Australian musician since she was romantically linked to the man Lena dated for five years, just two months after their very public split.
It was awful, Lena told The Cut on Monday, breaking her silence on the claims. I dont think anything happened between them. I can never know someone elses life.
I have never spoken to Ella [Lorde] about it. We havent talked since Jack and I broke up.
If Lenas separation from Jack in January wasnt heartbreaking enough, the actress was at one time presented with a 29-page PowerPoint presentation of fan theory to suggest that Jack and Lorde dating.
Jack quickly dismissed the rumours, calling it dumb hetero normtive gossip, while Lorde told fans: I love him. Hes awesome, but were not dating!
It was awful, Lena continued. And I couldnt do anything about it except trust that what he was saying to me was true.
Lena and Jack officially split last December and began living separately – he stayed in Brooklyn Heights and she moved to Los Angeles.
But then when pictures of Lorde – real name Ella Marija Lani Yelich-OConnor – embracing Jack on a cosy day out in Auckland surfaced online, the rumour mill went into overdrive.
Lorde and Jack worked together numerous times during 2017 to the extent that she later told Billboard, We were very obsessed with each other on a creative level and as buds.
She says they had dinner together every night for five days at one time and said in January that they still FaceTimed every day.
As for Lena and Lorde, the girls struck up a friendship on Twitter in 2013 when Lena said she was massively impressed by what Lorde had achieved at just 16.
But thanks to songwriter/record-producer beau Jack, a large chunk of Lordes album was then recorded in Lenas living room, and they became mutuals of popstar Taylor Swift and her notorious girl gang of 2016.
And we all know how that ended.
