‘I am YE’: Kanye changes name ahead of album release

Kanye West has announced he wants to be known as YE – a nickname he has used for many years and the title of his last album.

The 41-year-old made the announcement on Twitter ahead of the release his latest studio album Yandhi.

"The being formally (sic) known as Kanye West. I am YE," he tweeted.

In June, the rapper revealed the moniker has a spiritual meaning.

"I believe YE is the most commonly used word in the Bible," he is reported as telling LA radio station Real 92.3 when promoting his music.

"In the Bible it means 'you.' So I'm you, I'm us. It went from being Kanye, which means the only one, to being just YE – just being a reflection of our good, our bad, our confused, everything. I'm just more a reflection of who we are."
