With his action movie credentials, Denzel Washington might be one of the toughest men in Hollywood.

So it comes as no surprise that the Equalizer 2 actor has threatened to break somebodys back if they mess with his daughter in the midst of the sexual misconduct controversy rippling through the movie industry.

Denzel, 63, is a proud father to four children whom he shares with his wife, Pauletta – actor John David, 34, actress Olivia and her twin brother Malcolm, 27, and an elder daughter Katia.

Olivia has forged a stellar career in Hollywood, so far starring in Lee Daniels 2013 movie The Butler and three episodes of Mr Robot, for which her performance was critically-acclaimed.

With Olivia now moving in industry circles, its no wonder her Oscar-winning father is keeping a close eye on those around her in light of the #MeToo movement, which emerged following the Harvey Weinstein sexual assault claims in 2017.

Issuing a stern warning to Hollywood, Denzel told the i newspaper: I will break somebodys back if they mess around with my daughter. Let that be the message to put out there. Their back will be broken.

Somehow, we dont doubt it either.

Weinstein is currently awaiting trial in New York regarding three counts of sex crime charges. The movie producer has plead not guilty to those charges while more than 80 other women, including actresses like Gwyneth Paltrow, Angelina Jolie and Lupita Nyongo, have accused Weinstein of sexually inappropriate behaviour.

Asked whether the #MeToo movement has changed Hollywoods attitudes towards sexual assault and harassment, Denzel replied: I hope so. I think there are just more rules in place. Time will tell on this one but its good right now.

Denzel appears to be passing the acting torch to his children as, in addition to Olivia, his eldest son John David is also making waves on the silver screen. Following a star turn in Ballers, John David has won critical acclaim for his role in Spike Lees new movie, BlacKkKlansman.

In the meantime, Denzel is still smashing the box office as his latest movie, Equalizer 2, took $35.8 million (£27.2 million) in the US during its first week of release in July.
