Rumours continue to persist that Strictly professionals Kevin Clifton and Karen Clifton’s two-year-marriage marriage is on the rocks and past the point of no return.
While neither of them have confirmed or denied the rumours, it’s hard to forget where these two came from, after meeting on the live show Burn the Floor in 2009.
But with fresh rumours popping up every day on that great big grapevine, let’s wade through the palaver and get down to the nitty gritty of the Clifton’s love story, as we backtrack through the rumours, wedding rings and dance moves of the past few years.
April 2013: Kevin proposed
Where the Clifton superduo spawned.
The two met while dancing on Burn the Floor so it was only fitting that Kevin took to the same stage with a sign that said ‘Will you marry me’, getting down on bended knee on Karen’s 31st birthday.
A video has recently been unearthed of the moment he popped the question at the Shaftesbury Theatre, with Karen immediately tearing up as she read the sign.
The two were previously married, with Kevin to dancer Clare Craze, who he split from in 2010, and Karen to former dance partner Matthew Hauer.
July 2015: they tied the knot
The couple tied the knot in a beautiful ceremony at One Great George Street in Westminster in mid-2015.
Speaking to Hello! magazine about the nuptials, Kevin said: ‘Dancing in front of millions of people is way easier than that.
‘I’ve never seen anything more beautiful in my life. Karen looked absolutely stunning.’
There’s a few years of bliss, before…
November 2017: The couple is ‘barely speaking’
Everything seems pretty idyllic for the next two years, as the two dancers graced our screens on the reg as pros on Strictly.
But come late November the pair were reportedly hit with the ‘Strictly Curse’ as sources said they were ‘barely speaking’ to each other.
The couple’s relationship was reported to have ‘become strained’ during the show this year and things ‘aren’t going well’, sources claimed, with the pair experiencing ‘awkward group rehearsals’ after Karen was voted off with partner Simon Rimmer.
December 5, 2017: Pictures emerge of Karen leaving her house with a new man
Karen was pictured leaving her house with accountant Stuart Wood trailing behind not long after late last year.
The dancer was heading off the Strictly rehearsals when she was snapped in the company of Stuart on a Sunday’s morn, with him leaving two minutes later.
The photos emerged right at the time rumours first started flourishing as to whether Kevin and Karen were on the rocks.
Not a good sign for fans…
December 8, 2017: Kevin and Karen still scheduled to head on 2018 tour
In a show of dancing solidarity – and dedication to their fans – the couple confirmed they would still head off on their 2018 tour, after the success of their first live show.
The tour is still set to kick off May 22 in Northampton before heading to the likes of Reading, Oxford, Manchester, London and York before ending up in Dublin on 29 July.
December 10, 2017: Karen’s rumoured fling moved to the US
Talk of marriage crisis heated up when Karen was photographed with accountant Stuart Wood, as the two left her house in the early hours of Sunday.
However, their alleged affair wasn’t to last all that long as Wood took off across the pond to Texas.
At the time a source told the Sun: ‘It was never a long term thing and Karen realises that she made a mistake.’
It’s said Karen ended their affair after the photos emerged.
December, 2017: Fans upset Karen and Kevin no longer dance together on Strictly
Not helping those rumours of a split, fans were none too pleased when the husband and wife stopped dancing together in the group routines on Strictly.
Having partnered up to that point, they went with separate partners, breaking the hearts of fans.
Christmas, 2017: The Cliftons spend the holidays apart
While the country was talking about them with fever and interest, Karen and Kevin decided to spend the holidays apart and recharge solo.
Karen celebrated Christmas back home in the US, posting numerous shots to social media with her nieces, while Kevin spent it with his sister Joanne in the UK.
It was said at the time the pair ‘would spend Christmas apart before deciding how to move forward in the New Year’.
Seems they needed a little more time.
January 2018: Karen is still wearing her wedding ring
A sign that this is a rollercoaster ride of jewellery proportions, Karen was seen at the premiere of film Coco in January still proudly sporting her wedding band.
And even though Kevin ditched the bling the week later on the Strictly tour bus as he was filmed travelling from Leeds, he was still wearing his ring in mid-January, giving us all sorts of confused feels as we tried to nut this one out.
Yep, still January, 2018: ‘At the end of the day we are happy’
Speaking about the tour the duo were about to embark on, Karen claimed the two were happy.
Despite many a rumour to the contrary.
‘Kevin and I start our own tour in May which we are really looking forward to,’ admitted Karen, confirming that their 2018 tour will go ahead as planned.
She added: ‘People are going to be interested but at the end of the day we are happy.’
And, really, that’s all that matters.
February 2, 2018: Karen posts from Kevin and Karen Live meeting
Even though pundits continued to predict their demise, Karen and Kevin seemed full steam ahead on their 2018 live shows.
Taking to social media in early February, Karen put rumours that their anticipated tour would be canned to bed, by sharing an image taken during an in depth planning meeting.
Surrounded by snacks and computers, she captioned the shot: ‘Brilliant production meeting for the #kevinandkarenlive #tourw @stuartglovercreative our amazeballs tour manager and Clive Dunstall our ace Musical Director.. holding the fort strong on creative whilst @keviclifton is on the Strictly tour…’
More: Strictly Come Dancing
While Karen is busy planning their tour, Kevin wraps his Strictly Live shows, having travelled around the country before finishing up in London this evening.
Guess we’ll have to wait and see what happens between these two as they’re reunited this week to work on their upcoming duo tour…
