Have you ever used Snapchat to make yourself look like a dancing hotdog and wished you could be turned into a different piece of fast food instead?
Well, you’re in luck because Snapchatters will now have the ability to design their own ‘lenses’ using a free app for desktop computers.
Lenses change people’s faces in real time or insert objects into the frame using ‘augmented reality‘.
Now Snapchat has released a piece of software called Lens Studio which will allow people to ‘create and build lenses that can be used and shared by millions of Snapchatters everywhere’.
Snapchat said: ‘The launch of Lens Studio, we’re excited to make lenses more accessible to creators, and experiences within Snapchat more personal and diverse.’
Lens Studio is a free desktop app for Mac and Windows which can be used by ordinary people with a bit of creative savvy to make their own lenses which can be seen through the rear-facing camera.
Once you’ve created a Lens, you are given a code so it can be shared with friends.
Sadly, you won’t just be able to build a front-facing Lens which turns you into Phil Mitchell, or whoever else your fevered imagination comes up with.
Snapchat has named seven advertising firms which can make whatever lenses you want – for a price.
It said 70 million Snapchatters use a lens every single day, making them a powerful way for brands or big firms to get their message out there.
To use a lens, just open the Snapchat camera and tap someone’s face if you’re using the front-facing camera or the background if you’re using the rear-facing one.
You will then be able to choose from a wide variety of lenses – and maybe think about making your own.
